From there, students were asked to choose a stereotype and then decide how they wanted to show that stereotype. Most played it safe and chose stereotypes that weren't going to offend anyone. I do wish some had looked deeper and really addressed some of the not-so-nice ones that exist today. But, I understand why they chose they way they did.
However, all in all, it was a great learning experience. Students learned a lot about who they were as artists: their strengths, their weaknesses, and where they could improve. I am proud of my students because I asked a lot from them with their first theme. It was a big one, and they stepped up.
